Marvel’s “Moon Knight” has earned eight Emmy nominations, making the Egyptian-directed work the most Emmy nominated Marvel series of all time.
Starring 17 Egyptian actors and technicians in the cast and crew, including the first Arab director for Marvel, Mohamed Diab, the nominations were highly celebrated across the Arab world.
Diab expressed his joy at the nominations on Twitter, saying that he is proud that the work that he has been putting in for two years as a director and producer has been crowned with success.
The series, taking place in Ancient Egypt, follows a man with dissociative identity disorder who suffers from a series of mysterious blackouts, where he cannot recall a number of days of his life.
Eventually, he learns he is the chosen avatar of an Egyptian god called Khonshu, who has tasked him with stopping a rival evil deity from returning to Earth.
Moon Knight came out on top of the nominations across multiple categories, namely best sound editing for a limited or anthology series, movie, or special; best fantasy/sci-fi costumes; best music composition for a limited or anthology series, movie, or special and best character voice-over performance.
In addition, the series was also nominated for best sound editing for a limited or anthology series, movie or special; best sound mixing for a limited or anthology series or movie; best stunt coordination for a drama series, limited or anthology series or movie; and finally best stunt performance.
Hesham Nazih, the Egyptian music composer, tweeted: “Nothing beats receiving the amazing news of your first Emmy nomination, while walking in the breathtaking streets of Florence on a full moon night. Can’t express how thrilled I am.”
