New car sales recorded a drop of 15.78% by the end of June, compared to the same month last year, said the Association of Car Importers in Morocco.
Sales of private cars recorded a decline of 14.84%, as about 15,176 cars were sold, down compared to 17,829 cars sold in June 2021, added the same source.
The data also showed that sales of the number of light utility vehicles recorded a greater decline of 23.61%, as only 1,647 vehicles were sold, down compared to 2,156 cars sold out in June last year.
During the first six months of the current year, the total sales of new cars reached about 83,831 vehicles, a decrease of 10.84% compared to the same period last year, which witnessed sales of 94,025 vehicles, said the same source.
Additionally, Dacia brand continues to lead car sales nationwide, as its sales from January to the end of last June for private cars totaled 20,703 cars, down compared to 24,570 vehicles sold in the same period last year, a decrease of 15.74%.
Renault brand comes next with sales of about 10,833 private cars, down compared to 11,954 sold at the end of last June, a decrease of 9.38%, added the same source.
It is likely that this continuous decline in car sales in Morocco is linked to the spike in fuel prices, and the damage to the purchasing power of citizens, following the international crisis, mainly the Russia-Ukraine war, which resulted in a drop in the supply of cars and an increase in their prices.
