The night of museums held this Wednesday was launched in Rabat, in the presence of Moroccan Head of Government Aziz Akhannouch, Minister of Culture Mehdi Bensaid, and the Minister of Tourism, Fatim-Zahra Ammor.
Both officials attended a launch at the Mohammed VI Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Rabat, one of the institutions open for free to the public tonight, until midnight.
Speaking to the press at the event, Bensaid said this edition is special considering that for the first time, the night was generalized to the entirety of Moroccan museums and galleries across the country.
According to the official, such events are necessary to revive the Moroccan cultural scene, especially after COVID-19.
“Culture has a value that transcends entertainment, but affects both the economic and educational contributions the sector may have,” said Bensaid.
For Akhannouch, the cultural dynamism Moroccan museums and galleries are experiencing is contributing to cementing the cultural assets of the country.
“65% of tourists who come to Morocco do so for cultural reasons,” highlighted the Minister of Tourism present at the launch ceremony, adding that “inter-departmental cooperation to promote the Moroccan arts and cultural scenes will highly contribute to easing access to such facilities.”
