The academic training portion of the African Lion 2022 military exercise has begun earlier this week in Morocco, as the event will run until the end of June.
The military maneuvers will be conducted in the regions of Kenitra, Agadir, Tan Tan, Taroudant, and Mahbes.
African Lion 22 maneuvers will be executed in three other countries besides Morocco, namely Ghana, Senegal, and Tunisia, said the US Army Southern European Task Force on its website.
“African Lion 22 features a joint task force command post-exercise, a combined arms live-fire exercise, a maritime exercise, and air exercise including bomber aircraft, a joint forcible entry with paratroopers into a field training exercise, a chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear response exercise, and a humanitarian civic assistance program event,” added the US Army Southern European Task Force.
“The exercise bolsters interoperability among partner nations and supports U.S. military strategic readiness to respond to crises and contingencies in Africa and around the world,” said the same source.
This military operation has an allocated budget of $36 million, with the participation of over 7,500 service members.
Those service members involve militaries from Brazil, Chad, France, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain, and the UK, while US participants come from all service components, including the Reserves and National Guard, according to the same source.
