Milk prices soared in Morocco, after increases were noted across other food products, including water, cooking oil, and wheat.
According to data obtained by Hespress EN, sector companies raised the prices of some products, mainly sterilized UHT milk, and growth milk for children.
1 Liter of UHT milk’s price amounted to MAD 9.30, up compared to its previous price of MAD 8.40, while 1L of semi-skimmed milk is for MAD 10.50, up compared to its previous price of MAD 8.90.
Additionally, the price of children’s growth milk rose by 50 cents, according to the same source.
Lactose-free milk products increased by MAD 2 for 1 liter, and 60 cents for the 0.5 L quantity.
The price of a 6L skimmed UHT milk box reached MAD 63, an increase of almost MAD 10, compared to its previous price.
Recently, Moroccan water companies also increased prices, with rises ranging between 20 cents to MAD 1 from their normal price.
According to Article 2 of Law 104.12, the prices of goods, products, and services are determined through free competition, with the exception of goods, products, and services whose list is determined by a regulatory text after consulting the Competition Council.
The soaring in prices is driven by the spike in global prices due to the international crisis, following the Russian offensive on Ukraine that began on February 24, and that is still ongoing for 100 days.
The international crisis led to disruptions in trade as well as increases in global prices, mainly fuels.
