Morocco’s government has not yet responded to the calls of the Scientific Committee on  COVID easing restrictions, especially for international travel.

Travelers coming to the country by sea are given the choice between a vaccination pass or a negative PCR test taken 72 hours ahead of departure, while air travelers are still required both documents, in addition to mask-wearing.

Additionally, the country has extended the state of sanitary emergency until the end of the current month, despite the noticeable drop in COVID-related cases and deaths.

Member of the Scientific Committee, Mustapha Naji told Hespress that “mask-wearing during travel will help protect Moroccan citizens from the risk of infection.”

“Local decisions are not linked to international measures regarding the recent drop of most COVID restrictions, mainly in the European Union,” he added.

The European Union is set to drop mask-wearing mandate on flights and at airports starting this upcoming week, as part of its easing measures.

The Scientific Committee member stressed the need to preserve the current epidemiological situation nationwide, in a move to attract more investors and visitors.

Morocco has been reporting 1 infection in every 100.000 people during the last 7 days, representing 1% of its peak, according to Reuters’ latest COVID Tracker released on Sunday.
