Moroccan Minister of Foreign Affairs Nasser Bourita held a telephone conversation this Tuesday with the US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken.
Having tested positive for COVID-19 a week ago, Blinken expressed his “regret at not being able to participate in the ministerial meeting of the Global Coalition against ISIS,” which he was meant to co-chair alongside Bourita.
However, Blinken announced that he will be represented at this meeting by the US Under Secretary for Political Affairs, Victoria Nuland.
During the phone meeting, Blinken thanked Morocco for hosting the ministerial meeting, read a statement from the Ministry, while praising Morocco’s commitment to the fight against terrorism and the role of the Kingdom in promoting security and regional stability.
The meeting, held in Marrakesh, launched today, with the participation of over 90 countries, and at the joint invitation of the Moroccan FM and the head of the US diplomatic corps.
The diplomatic event will focus on the challenges imposed by terrorism in all its forms and the repositioning of ISIS in the continent.
Yesterday, Moroccan FM held sideline bilateral talks with Spanish FM, Jose Albares, where both Kingdoms said that the measures previously agreed on to revive Moroccan and Spanish relations are going smoothly.
