Morocco will go back to GMT+1 timing on Sunday, May 8, following the end of the Holy Month of Ramadan.
Morocco’s Ministry of Digital Transformation and Administrative Reform announced the news in a statement, issued today.
Moroccans should add 60 minutes to the standard time, on Sunday at 2 am in 5 days time.
The decision to adopt GMT+1 timing was first initiated in 2018, with the aim of reducing time difference between Morocco and its economic partners.
During the same year, the Moroccan government adopted Decree 2.18.855, under which the country had to move to GMT+1 timing.
Many citizens have repeatedly protested the decision, through social media platforms, arguing that the measure is “very confusing and not effective.”
