Morocco’s airports recorded more than 10 million passengers between the period when international flights resumed and the end of March.

With the resumption of international flights and the opening of borders, Morocco is beginning to normalize its travel situation.

As a result, tourists are arriving more normally in the country, as the sector slowly recovers from a few months of total closure during which the industry was on the brink of default.

Since the opening of borders on February 7 through March 31, the Kingdom has recorded 2,228,723 passengers moving through the nation’s airports.

According to the National Airports Office (ONDA), more than 21,330 flights have arrived in Morocco during this period.

ONDA notes that in March alone, Moroccan airports have recorded a traffic volume of 1,452,030 tourists, arriving from around 13,543 flights.

The data confirms that the recovery is now similar to 2019 levels. During this year, ONDA says there was a 70% volume of passengers and 80% in airport movements.

The Mohammed V airport, in Casablanca, recorded the highest number of passengers and flights compared to the others. It received 565,484 passengers in March alone and around 5,330 aircraft arrived at the facility, reaching a whopping 71% capacity.

In 2019, the traffic of this airport was 75%, so it is possible to affirm a remarkable recovery in underway.

The Moroccan government is implementing measures so that the sector’s situation can be further improved, to ensure a return to a normal situation for national tourism.

The Executive is trying to promote the tourism industry through different plans that promise to reap very good benefits. Among them is a new program to attract both international and domestic visitors to stay in the KIngdom’s hotels and dine in its restaurants.

Aids and incentives have been distributed to workers in the field, who have experienced difficult months during the closure.

During the period of closure fueled by the Omicron variant in the touristic winter peak, the tourism and hospitality industry has struggled to get back on its feet.
