Hong Kong said Thursday that it will drop most COVID-19 restrictions starting April 21.
This move came after the Chinese-ruled city noticed a drop in cases and related deaths.
The World Health Organization (WHO) recently said the number of new cases and deaths reported worldwide fell by 16% and 43%, respectively, according to its weekly epidemiological bulletin.
Hong Kong will therefore drop most of the restrictions, including the extension of opening hours in indoor places until 10 p.m instead of 6 as well as allowing cinemas and gyms to reopen.
Schools will also resume in-person classes, rather than remote teaching.
The average number of new infections reported each day in Hong Kong falls by more than 14,100 over the last 3 weeks, 26% of its previous peak, according to Reuters’ latest COVID Tracker released Thursday.
