National Press Condemns Irresponsible Allegations By Maati Monjib

The national press underlined Friday the reactions aroused by the statements of Maati Monjib, sued in a money laundering case, condemning his irresponsible remarks which deny the progress made by Morocco in the field of human rights.

These newspapers, in their majority, republished the Wednesday press release of the Interior Ministry in which it refutes “the irresponsible statements and tendentious allegations” of the man named Maati Monjib, which aim to mislead national and international public opinion and undermine the image of the Kingdom in terms of human rights.

“Just after his provisional release on a judicial decision, Maati Monjib made, in a video posted on certain electronic sites and social networks, declarations and tendentious allegations in which he undermined the institutions of the State, mentioning, in bad faith, concepts and terminologies that are alien and far from the reality and the nature of the work of national institutions,” the statement said.

Thus, “Al Ahdath Al Maghribia” wrote in its editorial that the Interior Ministry’s press release dotted the i’s when it insisted that state institutions will pursue the correct and firm application of legal provisions against all those who believe they benefit from legal immunity simply because they hold dual nationality, recalling that all Moroccans are equal in the eyes of the law and must comply with it without any distinction.

For its part, “Assabah” underlined that “Maati Monjib, who is being sued for money laundering, has undermined the pleas of international associations, which were concerned about the repercussions of hunger strike on his state of health due to his several chronic illnesses, when he left El Arjat prison running, leaving the wheelchair behind, and chanting public abuse in an attempt to flee a trial for profiting from money from suspicious fund transfers.

For its part, “Al Akhbar” noted, in its editorial, that at the time when the judicial institution took into consideration the human aspect by deciding to prosecute Maati Monjib in a state of freedom while forbidding him to leave the national territory, the latter was very ungrateful by making a series of provocative statements defying the state and containing false accusations against security institutions, in an attempt to give the impression that he is above the law and that he enjoys foreign support from personalities, institutions and even states.

For his part, Jamal Berraoui underlined on the antenna of “MFM” that Maati Monjib lacks evidence and arguments in his “despicable” statements, adding that his allegations imply that Morocco has not experienced any change.

In this sense, he clarified that Maati Monjib is not prosecuted for his positions and his ideas, but because of money laundering. Jamal Berraoui said that Maati Monjib defended and called for the release of certain individuals, which directly affected women victims of sexual violence.

The lawyer Mohamed El Haini said, in an article published on the news site “Hespress”, that Maati Monjib has not found other means to inaugurate his provisional freedom but to harm the women victims of Taoufik Bouachrine.
