US airlines canceled over 3,300 flights this weekend and delayed thousands more, following thunderstorms in Florida.

FlightAware, a website that tracks flights in real-time, found major disruptions at several Florida airports, including Miami, Ft. Lauderdale, and Orlando, as well as Baltimore and other airports across the country.

Over 6,000 flights were delayed and 1,930 were canceled on Saturday, according to flight-tracking FlightAware website.

Disruptions continued Sunday with nearly 1,540 cancellations and more than double the number of delays, but Monday’s schedules appeared to have no changes, according to the same source.

Airlines won’t take the risk to operate flights in bad weather conditions such as winter storms and hurricanes, during which they often cancel flights hours or even days in advance.

Disruptions from thunderstorms tend to cascade as crews and aircraft are unable to do their missions.
