The American School of Marrakech held a masterclass this Tuesday, with Executive director of Abdul Latif Jameel World Education Lab and dean of the open learning program, Vijay Kumar as the guest speaker.
This masterclass is the fruit of the American school of Marrakech’s recent partnership with the Abdul Latif Jameel World Education Lab as the newest member of the pK-12 Collaborative.
Executive director of Abdul Latif Jameel World Education Lab, Vijay Kumar said this program responds to calls for introducing technology in education, especially in developing countries.
“We have to adapt to changes, for both new learners and teachers, demanding new skills and competencies,” he added, describing the program as a renaissance to spark, and that all learners matter, and it will make access to all.
“2020 was an opportune moment for educational transformation,” he continued.
“All the systemic readiness becomes critical in order to move this forward over time,” he stated for the upcoming years.
The Executive director said a ‘futurism’ is not about predictions but is the way to make possibilities more real for others, giving the example of Uber and Google Earth.
“In order to prepare for a changing world, it requires multiple disciplines at once, including communication skills, problem-solving, sciences, technology, and imagination,” he said.
“Problem-solving skills because simply that’s how life works,” he stressed.
The American School of Marrakech and Abdul Latif Jameel World Education Lab’s MIT program will work to respond to the needs of world changes by teaching learners a multitude of disciplines, such as collaborative negotiation, and technology that will enable enduring learning behaviors, and outcomes.
US Consul general to Morocco, Lawrence Randolph praised on this occasion relations between the US and Morocco, stating, “both countries have a long-standing relationship, and Morocco was the first country that recognized the independence of the US.”
“There is also the American delegation in Tangier, which is a symbol of the 200 years of friendship between the two countries,” he added.
“Morocco is a great player in the African continent, it is even a first stop, a gateway,” he stated.
US Consul general to Morocco also praised the joint educational program between the American school of Marrakech and the US. He also took the opportunity to express his gratitude for the work and energy that were put into it in order to benefit learners.
Thanks for the great job! I will be there! See you then.
