The consumer price index (CPI) recorded by the end of February an increase of 0.6% compared to the previous month, according to the High Commission for Planning’s (HCP) recent note received this Tuesday.

This increase is mainly due to a rise of 1.0% in the index of food products, and up 0.3% in the index of non-food products, said HCP.

The inflation indicator recorded an increase of 0.5% over one month and 3.5% over one year.

The increases observed in food products between January and February 2022 mainly concern “Bread and cereals” with 2.9%, “Oils and fats” with 1.5%, “Vegetables” with 1.0%, “Fruits with 0.5%, and “Milk, cheese and eggs” with 0.4%.

On the other hand, prices fell by 0.1% for “Fish and seafood”. For non-food products, the increase mainly concerned “Fuel” prices with 5.7%.

In contrast, Casablanca and Errachidia recorded a drop of 0.1%.

Compared to the same month of the previous year, the consumer price index recorded an increase of 3.6% in February 2022, as a result of the rise in the index of food products by 5.5%, and that of non-food products by 2.5%, said the same source.

For non-food products, the variations range moved from stagnation in “communication” to a rise of 6.0% in “Transport”.
