The industrial area of Tangier Med recorded an overall total investment of MAD1.2 billion by the end of 2021, according to the group’s fourth-quarter newsletter.

The group’s business areas enabled the completion of 28 new industrial projects by international investors, including Nippon Express, Ravago, Mondi, Boa, and Sonofet, generating 4,397 new job opportunities.

Additionally, 8 operational companies within the industrial area launched projects to extend their activities in 2021, while 8 new operators have begun their activities in the logistics zone of Tangier Med, in a move to ensure the service of 40,000 m² of advanced supplier warehouses dedicated to automotive logistics.

These private investments involved 14 different countries, namely Morocco, Tunisia, Belgium, Spain, the UK, the US, France, Italy, Ireland, Niger, China, Portugal, Japan, and Germany, said the same source.

The volume generated from Tangier Med’s business areas reached MAD92 billion in 2021, up 26% compared to 2020.

As for the automotive sector, it recorded a business volume of MAD62 billion, up 24% compared to 2020, while the other industrial sectors, including textiles and aeronautics, recorded a business volume of MAD10 billion, up 11% compared to 2020.

In terms of the logistics sector, it reached MAD21 billion dirhams in 2021, up 46% year-on-year. This significant growth in the automotive sector is mainly explained by the launch of new projects in the Tangier automotive city business area.

The Tangier Med’s industrial area also showed significant growth of 28% in terms of the logistic flows created, including TIR trucks, and containers. These flows amounted to 413,905 units in 2021, compared to 322,361 units in 2020, across all the activity zones of the Tangier Med industrial area.

The volume of traffic through Tangier Med Port container terminals reached a record in 2021, exceeding 7 million containers, said the Tangier Med Port in its previous report.

This new record in activity comes as a result of the strong partnership of Tangier Med port’s collaborators, including shipowners, local authorities, and the administrations involved, Tangier Med added in the same report.
