Over 6000 nurses belonging to the Independent Nurses Union protested on Thursday across the country in response to a government agreement that excluded nurses operating without a degree from state compensation.
The contentious agreement between the government and health sector unions sat out to improve the situation of health workers and increase compensation for professional risks.

“But not everyone is in it for the win. About 33% of nurses of the 35,000 nurses operating in Morocco will benefit from the reforms,” Deputy of Independent Nurses Union, Omar Goumna told Hespress EN.
Nurses without diplomas will largely be left out of the agreement that the government hailed as a step towards “real reform.”
In response, those belonging to the independent union have organized a 72-hour strike that will last until March 4,

“Nurses are the ones who mostly face dangers in the health sector. In intensive care units, doctors leave, while nurses stay in for night shifts all along with patients to measure the respiratory rate, and do a follow-up 24h/24,” the Founder of the union added.
Goumna told Hespress EN the protests took place near delegates of the Health Ministry across the country.
“Nurses expressed their voice, chanting slogans such as give us our rights, and against the agreement,” he added.
He said “nurses need equity, and a fair compensation regarding their position,” he said.

“We also seek for the government’s approval for the creation of a national order for nurses that we already suggested in the parliament,” he stated, pointing out, “just like the other health professionals, doctors and pharmacists have their order, while nurses still don’t.”
