Moroccan Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nasser Bourita met with his Maltese counterpart Evarist Bartolo, this Tuesday, February 22 in Rabat, and announced the opening of a consulate in Casablanca, to enhance bilateral cooperation.
This morning, the Consulate of the Republic of Malta in Casablanca was inaugurated by the Maltese Minister of Foreign and European Affairs, and the Moroccan Minister of Industry and Trade, Riad Mazur.
The Maltese foreign minister said that Morocco and the Republic of Malta have maintained good ties for nearly 50 years, stressing the need to further develop economic relations with the opening of the new consulate.
During the meeting, Nasser Bourita also expressed Morocco’s support to Malta’s candidacy for a term of non-permanent membership in the Security Council of the United Nations, in view of Malta’s role as a medium for reconciling views and positions of different actors, as well as its presence on the international stage.
On this occasion, the Kingdom of Morocco and the Republic of Malta expressed their determination to work together within the framework of the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) to give a new impetus to economic development.
“Morocco and Malta can work together within the framework of the UfM, to which we belong and in which we believe, to give a new impetus to economic development,” said Evarist Bartolo, adding, “we would like Europe to better understand that there can be no security and peace in Europe if there is no security and peace in Africa.”
Finally, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Malta said that “there are areas where Morocco and Malta can work together, especially in the post-COVID era, during which regionalization will be strengthened,” noting that Morocco plays a very important role in this regard.
Mechanisms for strengthening economic relations between Morocco and Malta were the focus of a meeting.
To this end, the two countries have agreed on the creation of a joint economic mechanism to boost their economic cooperation and strengthen their consular relations, strengthening their cooperation in all areas of common interest.
