Moroccan embassy in Kiev urges citizens to return home

In view of the recent tensions between Russia and Ukraine, the Moroccan Embassy in Ukraine recommends that “Moroccan citizens in Ukraine leave the country, for their own safety, through available commercial flights.”

The embassy issued a statement this Saturday, February 12, advising Moroccan nationals to leave the East European country, while also discouraging Moroccans to visit the country, in light of the escalations noted in the past few weeks.

“The embassy also calls on Moroccan citizens wishing to travel to Ukraine to postpone their travel for the time being,” read the communique.

Additionally, the Moroccan embassy provided all Moroccans in Ukraine with the telephone numbers to receive their calls, in case of further escalations and difficulties leaving the Ukrainian territory.

This move comes only a day after the US and the UK urged their citizens to urgently leave Ukraine, in view of growing tensions with Russia.

Moscow has recently increased its military presence at several strategic locations along the Ukrainian border.

Many international government leaders had expressed that they “highly doubt Putin will ever engage in war” over its western neighbor, but daily developments to the situation are casting doubts over the lengths Russia will go to.
