Since little Rayan’s highly-publicized tragic death on Saturday night, a number of touching tributes have seen the light across Morocco and abroad.
Artists are unveiling frescoes and murals of the young boy’s face, as the national mourning of his death lingers on.
Young residents of the Hay Hassani district in Casablanca painted Rayan’s face on a large residential building facade in Derb Al Houria neighborhood this Monday.

The artist, Hamza El Wafi told Hespress AR that “the idea behind the mural came after the suffering we experienced as Moroccans for 5 days, waiting for the child to be rescued,” adding that seeing how the incident ignited “great sympathy in the country and abroad, we made the mural in order to not forget what we lived through, and in the spirit of solidarity.”
Another mural was seen in Egypt, depicting the child’s face along with a quote that reads “as if everyone is stuck in the well.”
Long before the unfortunate outcome of this tragedy, murals of Rayan emerged in Syria and the Sultanate of Oman, as the world held its breath and prayed for the child to make it out alive.
In Syria, a mural was created by children in Idlib, on the wall of a demolished house, calling on God to save Rayan “as he did with the prophet Youssef.”

In the village of Harmoul in Oman, artist Abdul Majeed Al Maamari painted a mural to show “the solidarity of the people of Oman with the people of brotherly Morocco, amidst their prayers to the Almighty to protect the young child, Rayan.”

Rayan’s face, while no longer among us, is being immortalized around the world, as Moroccans attempt to recover from the shocking incident.
Rayan’s body was buried in his hometown yesterday, with hundreds in attendance to say farewell to the little boy.
