Kenitra’s Provincial Directorate of National Education denied misinformation claiming that students at the Ibn Al-Haytam high school were forced to receive vaccinations.
As a result of misinformation circulating on social media, the directorate refuted rumors alleging that students were forced to take the COVID-19 vaccine in a statement released on February 3.
The statement also announced that the vaccine operation for high school students inside Ibn Al-Haytam was conducted in the presence of the parents association’s president.
Out of 61 students involved in the vaccination operation, 41 expressed the desire to receive the second dose, the statement added.
The statement, referring to the vaccination campaign of 12 to 17-year-old students, praised the remarkable efforts of the local authorities and the unfailing commitment of parents and students.
The statement was released as part of the state’s efforts to counter misinformation about COVID-19.
Recently, the number of students infected with COVID-19 has decreased. The Ministry of National Education, Preschool, and Sports reported on January 31 that 3,287 cases of COVID were found in Moroccan schools from January 24 to 29. The number is slightly lower than in previous weeks.
As part of the ministry’s protocol, schools must close the same classroom after one week and opt for remote learning for a seven-day period whenever three or more COVID-19 cases are recorded.
Upon detecting 10 or more COVID-19 related infections in separate classrooms within the same school, the ministry’s protocol states that the school must shut down and classes will resume remotely for a 7-day period.
Chakib Benmoussa, Morocco’s Minister of Education and Sports, has stated that his ministry is committed to providing safe in-person education unless the situation surrounding COVID-19 demands otherwise.
The minister reiterated MPs’ concerns, noting that the government recognizes the significance of providing in-person education to all students, regardless of socioeconomic status.
