Moroccan Foreign Affairs Minister, Nasser Bourita, has recently expressed his belief that “it is better to know the pandemic’s evolution in other countries in order to be able to reopen Moroccan borders.”

Nasser Bourita spoke about the borders this Monday, January 24, during an oral questions session in the House of Representatives.

The head of Moroccan diplomacy stated that “the opening of the borders is important but remains linked to the guarantee of necessary conditions to preserve the health of visitors and Moroccan citizens.”

Bourita explained that “each country adopts its own measures according to its epidemiological situation,” which means that Moroccan authorities will have to elaborate separate protocols depending on the country of departure.

The FM continued that although “the objective is clear, namely the opening of borders, the guarantee of conditions to preserve the health of both visitors and Moroccans is necessary.” Bourita noted that the issue of opening the borders was currently under discussion within the Ministry and other governmental institutes.

He stated that “Morocco is monitoring the development of the epidemiological situation in countries that have opened their borders, and will decide what measures can be undertaken,” adding that “despite the importance of opening borders, it is also important to continue to monitor the development of the pandemic globally.”

The FM’s statement comes at a time of “optimism” among various officials of the executive, as both the government spokesperson and the head of government have said an opening can be expected “in upcoming weeks.”

4 days left and no decision from this miserable, morally and politically backward country! They think the country is a farm, they open and close the doors for the “cows and sheep” to enter and leave, as they like!
