Morocco ranked 55th place worldwide out of 140 countries in terms of military power, according to the Global Firepower world’s 2022 ranking.

The Global Firepower’s ranking states that the US tops the list, followed by Russia, China, and India (4th).

In determining the ranking of a given nation, the Global Firepower Index looks at 50 different factors. These factors include weapon numbers, weapon diversity, natural resources, available industries, manpower, financial stability, logistical capability, and geography.

Global Firepower said in the report that Morocco has 17,549,670 available manpower, 14,917,220 fit-for military services, 200,000 active military manpower, 100,000 reserve military manpower, and 25,000 paramilitaries.

The Moroccan Air Force consists of 249 military aircraft, including 83 fighters, 64 helicopters, 29 fixed-wing transport, 67 trainer fleets, 4 special mission aircraft, and 2 supply ships, said the report.

Morocco has 3,335 tanks, 3,500 armored vehicles, 517 self-propelled artillery pieces, 211 towed artillery, and 144 rocket projectors, noting that the Royal Navy consists of 121 military ships, 4 corvettes, 6 frigates, and 22 offshore patrols.

The country continues to modernize its army as part of its approach to ensure regional and local security.

According to the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI), Morocco receives 9.2% of arms from France, and 0.3% from the UK, while the US is the main supplier of weapons arms by 90%.

Morocco’s Royal Armed Forces also rely on Chinese, and Israeli weapons because of their good and appropriate quality.

Late November, Israel’s Defense Minister Benny Gantz signed a defense memorandum of understanding with Abdellatif Loudiyi, Delegate Minister in charge of the National Defense Administration during the first day of his two-day visit to Rabat, aiming to deepen cooperation across areas such as intelligence sharing, research, and joint military training.
