The US Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has urged citizens, on Friday, to wear protective masks to prevent the COVID-19 infection.
The CDC has advised the US population to wear “the most protective mask you can” while stopping short of advocating a nationwide usage of N95 respirators.
Americans should “wear the most protective mask you can that fits well and that you will wear consistently,” the CDC said.
US President Joe Biden said on Thursday that the federal government plans to make “high-quality masks” available to Americans for free, in a move to contain the new COVID-19 wave.
Additionally, the White House said on Friday Biden’s government will begin shipping 500 million COVID-19 tests to citizens later this month, free of charge.
These moves come as a result of the US’s leading the world in COVID-19 daily average number of new deaths reported, accounting for one in every 4 deaths reported worldwide each day, according to Reuters’ latest COVID Tracker, released this Saturday.
COVID-19 infections in the US are at their peak, with a daily average number of 791,152 new infections reported each day, according to the same source.
