830 Moroccan seasonal workers arrived at the port of Algeciras, Spain, for the red fruit harvesting campaign on Wednesday evening, said the Spanish government’s sub-delegation in Huelva.

In total, 12,200 Moroccan seasonal workers are expected to arrive in Huelva, Spain, as part of this year’s agricultural campaign.

The arrival of Moroccan seasonal workers was initially planned for the end of December but has been postponed due to the country’s border closure, in an effort to contain the Omicron variant.

Around 15 or 16 ships with a capacity of 800 to 1,000 Moroccan seasonal workers per ship are expected to be part of this red fruit harvesting campaign, which is expected to last until March, with their return in Morocco scheduled for mid-June.

The Strawberry and Berries of Ethical, Labour, and Social Responsibility Plan Interprofessional Association (PRELSI) will be in charge of transferring those seasonal workers from the port of Algeciras to different points of the region.
