A study showed that the giant US pharmaceutical company Pfizer will reach USD28 billion by 2022 in terms of gains, after the company announced it will ship its new anti-COVID-19 pill Baxulovide to rich countries next year.
The US pharmaceutical company said other countries will have to wait until early 2023 to receive shipments.
“Antiviral pills will be easier to produce and distribute, and face less hesitancy than vaccines,” said Arsalan Azad, an Airfinity analyst, adding, “It is likely we will see another race to secure limited supply in 2022.”
As of yesterday, the EU’s drug regulator approved Pfizer’s Covid pill for emergency use by individual member states struggling with the new wave of the disease, pending formal approval across the bloc, according to AFP.
“The medicine, which is not yet authorized in the EU, can be used to treat adults with Covid-19 who do not require supplemental oxygen and who are at increased risk of progressing to severe disease,” the European Medicines Agency said in a statement.
Last month, Pfizer announced that its anti-COVID-19 pill has shown 89% efficiency in preventing the risk of hospitalization or death, according to the first results of clinical trials.
For now, the US company is working on an updated jab in response to the Omicron variant that could be ready in 100 days.
