Moroccan authorities allowed, on an exceptional basis, passenger flights to the Kingdom from Portugal, Turkey, and the United Arab Emirates, according to a statement by the inter-ministerial committee.

The committee said the decision came in order to enable Moroccan citizens who are already residing in Morocco to return to the country.

According to the press statement, these exceptional flights will start on Wednesday, December 15, concerning exclusively Moroccan citizens who are actually residing in Morocco and who have recently left the national territory.

Moroccan authorities had decided to suspend direct flights for a period of two weeks, starting on November 29, due to the emergence of Covid-19 new variant Omicron in Europe and Africa.

The authorities extended on December 9 the suspension to and from the kingdom to a later date.

Even if the kingdom is still Omicron-free, Moroccan authorities are fearing the emergence of the highly contagious variant.
