The Digital Development Agency (ADD) launched earlier this week E-Himaya, a national information and awareness platform for children, young people, parents on digital culture and responsible use of Internet.
Former Facebook product manager, Frances Haugen had raised alarm over damaging content on social media targeting children and teenagers, like cigarettes content for aged under 18, pushing its founder Mark Zuckerberg to adopt stricter options to protect this target from inappropriate content on ICT.
Morocco launched in these lines E-Himaya, aiming to raise awareness among children and young people as well as protect from ICT-related risks.
The platform is the fruit of a partnership between the Ministry of Digital Transition, the Digital Development Agency (ADD), in addition to other actors.
Rachid Baarbi, vice president of AUSIM told Hespress English in a statement, “This initiative shows Morocco’s commitment to protecting human rights, privacy, and children from ICT-related risks.”
“This platform includes a culture, aiming to raise awareness on the appropriate use of ICT,” he said.
AUSIM‘s vice president said his association is part of the Taskforce project, with the Moroccan Center for Polytechnic Research and Innovation (CMRPI) launching the platform last year called the Moroccan Cyberconfidence Space (EMC), aiming to promote better use of ICT.
“The platform supports ICT users in the virtual world by offering assistance, awareness, and education guide services for better protection from related risks,” he said, adding, “ EMC also makes it possible to download educational and fun videos to better support children and young people in taking advantage of the benefits of a safe use of ICT as well as pushing them towards responsible behavior online,” he specified.
AUSIM’s vice president said “the platform includes services like E-STOPLINE and E-HELPLINE, allowing victims of cyberbullying to report anonymously and confidentially illegal content on the Internet, whether on social media or websites, and once it is done by the user, the online harassment content will be deleted automatically,” he explained, adding, “victims can also benefit from legal or psychological support provided by the EMC Taskforce.”
“Facebook and Instagram are also part of this Taskforce project, they are so active in reacting by deleting reported content within 48h,” he added.
AUSIM is a Moroccan NGO, created in 1993, offers several services for digital projects as well as protect ICT users by raising awareness on safe use in an ethical, responsible, and well-governed way.
