Morocco’s Jamal Eddine El Aloua was elected Monday in Cairo Chairman of the Executive Council of the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO), on the sidelines of the 42 nd session of the organization’s Council.

The representative of the Kingdom obtained 22 votes, ahead of the candidate of the State of Palestine, Rachid Dawas, who received 16 votes, and the candidate of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Timori Mitra, who obtained a single vote. This is the first time ICESCO has ever carried out a voting process.

The final list of candidates for the presidency of the Executive Council of ICESCO included three candidates, after the withdrawal of the representative of the Republic of Iraq, Alaa Abd Odah Jazea.

After the announcement of the results, ICESCO Director-General Salem Bin Mohammed Al-Malik expressed his thanks to the members of the Council, and congratulated the elected Chairman Jamal Eddine El Aloua, as well as the Vice-Chairman and the Rapporteur of the Council, wishing them every success.

Speaking on this occasion, the Moroccan ambassador to Egypt, Ahmed Tazi, thanked all the Member States for their confidence in the Kingdom’s candidate, stressing that he will work for the service of all the Member States as well as for the issues of concern to the organization, in coordination with ICESCO’s General Directorate.

After the constitution of the ICESCO’s Executive Council Bureau, the reports of the organization’s activities for the year 2021, the financial reports for the year 2020, the draft strategic orientations for the year 2025, and the draft action plan and budget for the next two years will be presented.

The agenda of this meeting of the Executive Council also includes the adoption of the 14th session draft agenda of the ICESCO General Conference, which is scheduled for December 8 and 9 in Egypt.
