A new spontaneous wave of vaccination is now sweeping Morocco, as the international epidemiological situation and the spread of the Omicron mutant spread worry among citizens.

Demand for vaccination was reignited after weeks of stagnation.

According to the health ministry’s latest report, the number of people who received the first dose on Friday was 4,403, while 10,018 received their second dose and 33,051 citizens had been administered their third dose.

Students between 12 and 17 years old were 370 to receive the first dose, and 1463 students received the second, as of Thursday.

Despite the domestic stability of the epidemiological situation, fears of a new wave still persist, especially in light of the emergence of a new variant and changing weather conditions,

A number of European countries have identified cases of the Omicron variant, and are witnessing new surges of infection.

Morocco has tightened precautionary and preventive measures at a number of international airports and marine terminals, while closing off its air and sea borders for two weeks.

Additionally, the government has decided to ban all festivals and cultural and artistic events.

The Scientific Committee and the government as a whole stresses the importance of vaccination, with government spokesperson Mustapha Baitas saying that “vaccination is the only solution to fight the COVID-19 virus.”
