The 10th edition of Nador’s International Festival of Cinema and Collective Memory (FICMEC) will kick off next week, according to a statement from the Centre of Collective Memory for Democracy and Peace (CMCDP), reported by MAP.
“This increased interest in FICMEC is testament to the growing attraction that the Nador festival has aroused among filmmakers from all over the world,” the center said, noting that the movies in the official competition were selected after viewing nearly 600 films from 40 countries.
The selected features will compete in several festival categories, including feature film, documentary and short film.
According to the organizers, FICMEC “aims to create a cultural dynamic” in Morocco and especially in Nador, by “helping to contribute to its cultural development.”
The opening ceremony for this year’s edition will see the presentation of the international memory for democracy and peace prize to Najat Vallaud-Belkacem, former French Minister of National Education, Higher Education and Research “for her efforts in favor of peace and living together,”the statement said.
