Following Morocco’s decision to begin vaccinating patients suffering from allergies against the COVID-19 virus, many were left to wonder about their eligibility for inoculation.

According to the researcher in health policies Tayeb Hamdi, cases of people suffering from allergies can be broken down into four.

The first case is related to people suffering from respiratory, food or medicines-related allergies, the researcher told Hespress in a statement. They can get vaccinated in normal vaccination centers, as long as they are monitored for 15 minutes after receiving their shot, Hamdi said, noting that 70% of allergic reactions begin manifesting within 15 minutes and can last up to 5 hours.

The second case relates to patients who have a history of severe allergic reactions to a known substance, the same source added.
In this case, they can receive their shots but must be monitored for thirty minutes after.

As for people with severe allergic reactions to more than one known substance or for unknown reasons, they must get jabbed in hospitals, Hamdi continued.

Lastly, the researcher notes that people with severe allergic reactions to vaccines or who’ve had a severe reaction to the first jab are not eligible for a vaccination against COVID-19.

The COVID-19 scientific committee in charge of the national vaccination campaign has previously raised fears about over-vaccinating people suffering from allergies, especially serious cases of anaphylactic shock and angioedema.

However, the Ministry of Health decided to allow vaccinating people who suffer from allergies and diseases that prevent them from being vaccinated, according to a special process that requires thorough monitoring, and in hospitals with intensive care units in preparation for complications.

As of yesterday, November 4, the Ministry of Health announced that it will begin issuing vaccination exemption documents for people who are unable to get vaccinated due to health issues.

According to a press release, these citizens must provide medical proof that they cannot receive the anti-COVID-19 vaccine, accompanied with their ID card and phone number “to the regional health delegate of their residence, where a regional medical committee will decide on their request after studying their file.”
