Quebec’s government intends to increase the number of immigrants from 49,500 to reach 52,500 by 2022, according to the Ministry of immigration’s announced plan.
The Ministry said it intends to raise the number of immigrants by 2022, in addition to 18,000 applicants for immigration who weren’t admitted in 2020.
The decision came as a shock as the ruling party had promised during the elections campaign to reduce the number of immigrants by 20%.
However, the COVID-19 pandemic’s effects and the lack of the workforce in Quebec resulted in the rise of the number of immigrants, as expressed by a number of employers, welcoming the plan.
The goal of Quebec’s government is to help the economic recovery of all regions of Quebec, following the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic and its effects on the economy.
The new immigration plan aims to reach 65% of applications admitted in the economic immigration as well as promote the permanent selection of foreign workers and foreign nationals graduated from Quebec who meet the needs of the labor market and who temporarily reside in the territory.
Additionally, this plan aims to encourage the permanent immigration of young people in order to meet the demographic needs of Quebec.
Morocco is ranked the third-largest source of immigrants in destination to Quebec. Each year, nearly 3,500 young Moroccans choose Canada as a destination to pursue higher education studies or to work, especially in Quebec, according to the Embassy of Canada in Morocco’s website.
