Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman said that the kingdom is aiming to achieve carbon neutrality by 2060, during a speech at the Saudi Green Initiative forum on Saturday.

MBS said that Saudi Arabia aims to reduce its carbon emissions by 278 million tons a year by 2030, in addition to adopting the Carbon Circular Economy, based on zero waste, which will help reach the target.

KSA will also join the Global Methane Pledge in order to help cut global methane emissions by 30 percent by 2030.

The Crown Prince added during his speech that the kingdom intends to plant 450 million trees and rehabilitate 8 million hectares of degraded land by 2030, which should reduce 200 million tons of carbon emissions.

Additionally, Saudi Arabia is joining the Global Ocean Alliance, in order to amplify its protection of terrestrial, marine and coastal environments, the Crown Prince announced.
