Direct flights between Canada and Morocco will resume on October 29, according to the Canadian government.
The Canadian government had suspended direct flights from Morocco since August 29, following the rise of positive cases in the country as well as the prevalence of forged COVID-19 related documents.
According to a statement from the Canadian government, the decision is based on the improvement of Morocco’s COVID-19 situation.
Morocco has fully vaccinated 55% of its population, and has acquired some 66 million doses of anti-COVID-19 vaccines, and is expected to fully vaccinate 33 million people, enough to achieve mass vaccination, experts said.
Travelers from Morocco must provide either a negative COVID-19 PCR test certificate issued by Morocco and recognized by the European Commission, taken within 72 hours of the scheduled departure or proof of a previous positive test result taken between 14 and 180 days before departure to Canada.
Travelers who have been in Morocco for over 14 days and have been tested positive in Morocco, must provide proof of a positive COVID-19 PCR test issued by the Government of Morocco. Travelers who were infected prior to arrival in Morocco must also provide proof of the previous infection from another country prior to their arrival.
Air operators will approve Moroccan travelers’ COVID-19 PCR test certificates based on scanning the digital QR code to verify and confirm test results, the news release added.
In Canada, border and public health measures remain subject to change as the epidemiological situation evolves, the news release concluded.
