Royal Air Maroc (RAM) and the Israeli airline El Al signed “a Memorandum of Cooperation (MoU)” in recent days, RAM announced today in a press release.
This cooperation providing greater benefits for travelers from Israel and Morocco.
The agreement was signed by RAM CEO Hamid ADDOU and EL AL CEO Avigal Soreq on the sidelines of the 77th General Assembly of the International Air Transport Association (IATA) that was held recently in Boston.
According to RAM, this MoU will allow the two airlines to explore “the possibility of concluding a codeshare on the direct lines operated between Morocco and Israel as well as on the routes of their networks.
“This agreement comes in a context where Royal Air Maroc and EL AL intend to operate air traffic services between the two countries through their two hubs, namely the Mohammed V airport in Casablanca and the Ben Gurion international airport in Tel Aviv,” according to the same source.
“The Moroccan airlines’ company is preparing to launch soon a direct air route between Casablanca and Tel Aviv, “said RAM.
This strengthening of relations between RAM and El Al follows the normalization of diplomatic relations between Morocco and Israel in December 2020, in addition to the air agreement that was signed in January 2021, authorizing Moroccan and Israeli airlines to serve the two countries.
Recently in August, Morocco and Israel’s foreign affairs ministers have signed three agreements on political consultation, air services, and culture.
During the same month, the first direct flight between Israel and Morocco landed in Marrakesh, and carried one hundred Israeli tourists, in a move aimed at attracting 50,000 Israeli tourists to Morocco by the end of the year.
