The Moroccan embassy in China began rolling out visas to Moroccan nationals living in China, after a six months delay that put at least 60 Moroccans in China at risk of deportations, fines and prison terms.
At least 7 Moroccans living in China have received a scanned copy of their visas today, after their documents expired.
The rest are expecting their visas and residency papers in the upcoming days.
Taha Bennani Tannouch, a Moroccan student in China told Hespress English, “ I’ve received at first an email of approval to my request of renewing my passport, and the embassy said it will keep me updated once I receive my new passport,” adding, “a few days later, I called the embassy to ask for updates, telling me that our passports were transported via DHL.”
“The process took ten days for the renewal of documents in Morocco, three days for DHL, and two days in customs,” said Youssef Ben.M, an English teacher in China.
The group said the Embassy had been unreachable for over six months, leaving them unable to renew expired residency cards, passports, visas, or get vaccinated in China.
They say they have tried many times to reach out to the Embassy of Morocco in China, sending letters and emails only to be met with auto-replies.
A source from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs previously told Hespress EN that “the Moroccan Ambassador in China has been sick for more than six months, and this might be the cause of not receiving any feedback until now.
