European Union countries, including Spain, Hungary, and the Netherlands began recognizing the Sinopharm vaccine, unlike France, according to Hespress sources.
The move to approve the vaccine comes as a result of the European Commission’s decision to authorize Moroccans’ entry into the Schengen territory using Morocco’s COVID-19 certificates.
France, however, still requires a quarantine upon arrival and still does not recognize the Sinopharm vaccine.
“The Sinopharm vaccine is recognized by the World Health Organization, and the country is proceeding with it as required,” said the member of the scientific committee on vaccination Moulay Said Afif.
Following The European Commission’s decision, Morocco is currently the only African country to have such a status within the European Union.
Morocco will be linked to the European Union digital system, and its vaccine passes as well as its COVID-19 PCR tests will be accepted according to the conditions set by the EU.
The World Health Organization (WHO) said Morocco is among nine African countries that achieved the global vaccination target before the end of September.
Currently, 44.9% of Moroccans are fully vaccinated against the coronavirus, the majority of which using China’s Sinopharm vaccine.
