Cristiano Ronaldo made his comeback to Manchester United by scoring two goals over Newcastle United in the English Premier League on Saturday in his first match with the team, 12 years after his departure.
Coach Ole Gunnar Solskjær told reporters after the match”I’m very happy for him, the team and the fans, and you can feel the atmosphere around the club since Ronaldo arrived,”
“We feel like we’re back in the old days,” Solskjaer said. “Cristiano is a special man and a special player in the club’s history and by coming here he showed his love for the club.”
Sports analytics platform Opta said that Ronaldo has become the second-oldest player to score a double in the Premier League at the age of 36 years, behind 38-year-old Burnley player Graham Alexander.
“This club is amazing, I feel very proud and will do everything in my power to make the fans proud of me. Football in England is different from anywhere in the world, I played everywhere, but frankly England is special to me.” Cristiano Ronaldo told reporters after his victory.
“I am proud to be back at Man United and to play in the Premier League again, but above all I am happy to help the team.”He added.
The Newcastle match is Ronaldo’s first after his return to Manchester United this summer.
Ronaldo left Juventus during last summer’s transfers, returning to Manchester United after his departure 12 years ago, in a deal worth about EUR23 million.
