Government to lower PCR tests prices MAD 400

The government decided to regulate the prices of COVID-19 tests starting by lowering them to MAD400 instead of MAD600.

This decision comes as a result of several months of procrastination as well as the emergence of forged COVID-19 related documents and the sale of fake tests on the internet.

New prices have been set, including MAD400 for the standard PCR test instead of MAD600, MAD600 for the rapid PCR test, MAD200 for the antigen test, and MAD120 for the serological test.

Those new prices were adopted during the Commission’s meeting on Friday, chaired by Mohammed Benchaâboun and consisting of representatives from different departments, including the interior, trade, industry, and agriculture.

The commission also decided to reimburse citizens after paying for the COVID-19 tests.

The Ministry of Interior previously confirmed the spread of forged COVID-19 related documents, as an increase in cases of falsifications was noticed for both PCR certificates and vaccine passes.

The Ministry said persons responsible for these acts could face criminal prosecution for “threatening citizen’s health and life, even compromising the national vaccination campaign which is progressing satisfactorily.”

An illicit economy for medicines had been prospering globally, with a wide range of illegal products traded on the black market, even some PCR tests were sold online on social media, including Instagram and Facebook.
