Hespress hosted today, in episode 8 of the Road to Elections Nizar Baraka, Secretary-General of the Istiqlal party who has been the official opposition since 2013.

Baraka’s opinion on the Algeria’s decision to severe the ties with Morocco gave a green light to the interview with him stating: “Algeria wants to revive the logic of the Cold War. Severing relations with Morocco harms the interests of the region and the Maghreb nations.”

He added that Algeria has been closing borders since 1994 and proceeding with such decision will only make of the situation a dangerous one.

On the vaccination, former Minister of Economy and Finance Baraka solidly denounced his take on the vaccine clarifying that he, himself have been vaccinated and his family as well.

To Baraka, interrupting the vaccination campaign is a selfish act. “Every country has extended vaccination to children… Vaccination of children is necessary to preserve their lives… We understand the fear of parents especially when speaking of the Pfizer vaccine that contains mRNA.”

When asked about Hamid Chabat who quitted after being once the Secretary-General of the Istiqlal Party, Baraka answered with a trembling tone: “I can only respect Hamid Chabat’s decision in favor of joining another party and we will not comment further.”

Before bringing the interview to an end, Istiqlal’s Secretary General highlighted few key sectors that he is determined to work on once given the chance to be the next governmental president.

For Baraka education and health make his primary concern. He promises elderly people health services and a sum of 1,000 per month.
“We will help old people to start projects… and with people special needs to indulge in education.” insisted Baraka.
