Atletico Madrid announced the return of Antoine Griezmann to the team from Barcelona on a one-year loan contract, which can be extended for another year.

“FC Barcelona and Atletico Madrid have reached an agreement for the loan of Antoine Griezmann for a season with the option of a further season,” the statement said.

“FC Barcelona would like to thank Antoine Griezmann for his commitment and dedication and wishes him all the best for the future,” Barcelona Club said.

Antoine Griezmann had joined Atletico Madrid before the 2014-2015 season and recorded his first participation with the team on August 10, 2014, through the Spanish Super Cup match that the team won at that time.

The player’s first goal for the team came more than a month later, during a match against Olympiacos in the Champions League.

Antoine Griezmann occupies fifth place in the ranking of the most prominent scorers in the history of Atletico Madrid, where he scored 133 goals in 257 games and scored 50 goals for the team.

Griezmann won the Spanish Super Cup, the European League and the European Super Cup with Atlético Madrid. He also won the 2018 World Cup with the French national team.

Gzeezmann finished third in 2018 in the Ballon d’Or award, which is given to the best player in the world, behind Luka Modric and Cristiano Ronaldo.

With the French international’s departure, Barcelona is now without both him and franchise icon Lionel Messi, who left the club to join Paris St. Germain earlier this month.
