French striker Karim Benzema signed a new deal with Real Madrid to keep him in the Spanish club until 2023.

“Real Madrid CF and Karim Benzema have reached an agreement to extend the contract of the player now associated with the club for the next two seasons until June 30, 2023”, Real Madrid wrote in its statement.

Real Madrid expressed its desire to retain the French striker after the departure of some of its stars this summer such as Sergio Ramos, who moved to Paris Saint-Germain, and Raphaël Varane who joined Manchester United.

Karim Benzema, who joined Real Madrid in the summer of 2009 from Lyon, has succeeded in establishing himself as one of the club’s most prominent stars in recent years, despite being criticized from time to time.

Benzema gave a great performance last season, scoring 30 goals and providing 9 assists to his teammates during his participation in 46 games with Real Madrid.

The French striker participated this summer with the French national team in the Euro 2020 competitions and scored 4 goals.

Real Madrid tried to extend the contract until 2024, but Benzema insisted on extending it for one season only.
