Israeli Foreign Minister Yair Lapid is expected to inaugurate an Israeli Liaison Office in Rabat on Thursday, where he is expected to arrive tomorrow on an official visit, according to reporters from Jerusalem.

The state-run Israeli news site Israel 24 said on Tuesday that “Lapid will be accompanied by a delegation that includes officials from various sectors, including tourism, labor and health.”

His visit will begin with a “visit to the tombs of the late kings Mohammed V and Hassan II.”

He will then “meet his Moroccan counterpart Nasser Bourita, with whom he is expected to sign 3 agreements to deepen cooperation and strengthen relations between the two countries,” added the site.

The site added that “Israeli officials are scheduled to meet with Moroccan Minister of Tourism, Handicrafts, Air Transport and Social Economy Nadia Fattah al-Alawi, as well as officials from the Moroccan Ministry of Health, to discuss how to deal with the repercussions of the Covid-19 pandemic. “

The Israeli news site added that “on the second day of the visit, the Israeli foreign minister is expected to inaugurate the Israeli liaison office in Rabat.”

And to indicate that “the program of the visit also provides for the practice of prayers, next Thursday, in one of the (Jewish) temples of the city, then the Israeli delegation should conclude its visit with a press conference in a hotel of the economic capital.”

Lapid’s visit to Morocco comes a few days after the start of the first direct commercial flight between Israel and Morocco.

A week ago, the first direct flight between Israel and Morocco landed in Marrakesh, and carried one hundred Israeli tourists,in a move aimed at attracting 50,000 Israeli tourists to Morocco by the end of the year.

Morocco had announced seven months ago the restoration of diplomatic relations with Israel, as part of the US mediated Abraham deals.

According to Israel 24 , the last visit of an Israeli foreign minister to Morocco dates back 18 years, with the visit of the foreign minister, Silvan Shalom, in 2003.
