The State of California is battling against the second largest wildfire in its history, as firefighters scramble to put out the flames that have destroyed an entire town and forced thousands to evacuate.
At least 184 homes and commercial buildings burned in Northern California, with the Dixie Fire expanding across 1,876 square km according to state fire officials.
The Fire was set ablaze on July 13 burning mostly in remote areas. But winds pushed the flames toward homes in northeastern California.
California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection said in a statement three firefighters have been injured, with no fatalities reported.
The Dixie fire is second to the 2020 August Complex fire which destroyed 417,898 ha.
As the 2021 wildfire season begins to unfold, wildfires are wreaking havoc across the world, as climate researchers are finding higher average temperatures increasing the length of the fire season and the number of places where fires can occur.
