Three suspects have been placed in pretrial detention following an alleged deliberate vehicle attack that seriously injured a police officer on duty in Agadir, the public prosecutor’s office announced Sunday.

In a statement dated November 1, the prosecutor general at the Agadir Court of Appeal said the driver and two passengers had been brought before prosecutors, who requested a judicial investigation into attempted premeditated murder.

The driver faces charges of attempted premeditated murder, public intoxication, driving under the influence of alcohol, fleeing the scene of a traffic accident and refusing to comply with police orders.

The second suspect faces charges of complicity in attempted premeditated murder, public intoxication, providing a false identity that could result in a conviction being entered on another person’s criminal record, and facilitating drug use.

The third suspect faces charges of complicity in attempted premeditated murder and public intoxication.

Following initial questioning, the investigating judge ordered all three suspects detained pending further proceedings.

The officer sustained serious injuries when he was struck by a vehicle while performing his duties. Authorities previously reported that his condition had stabilized following hospital treatment.
