Morocco opened a museum dedicated to Jewish heritage in Fez on Monday, highlighting the community’s history and its role in the country’s cultural identity.

Located in the city’s historic Mellah, one of Morocco’s oldest Jewish quarters, the Moroccan Jewish Culture Museum displays religious objects, archaeological finds, artwork, manuscripts and historical archives.

The museum covers more than 1,700 square meters, including about 1,200 square meters of exhibition space. Its collections explore Jewish traditions, religious practices, crafts and centuries of interaction between Jewish and Muslim communities.

King Mohammed VI launched the project in April 2019 as part of a broader program to restore and preserve Fez’s historic medina. The Jewish community of Fez donated the site, while Moroccan Jewish heritage groups contributed to the project.

Construction and development work was completed in March 2023.

The museum’s opening adds to efforts to preserve Morocco’s diverse religious and cultural heritage. It is located near the Al-Batha Museum of Islamic Arts, which opened in 2025 following the restoration of the historic palace.
