Morocco braces for thunderstorms, hail in several provinces

Morocco’s weather service has issued an orange-level alert for strong thunderstorms, hail and wind gusts expected across several provinces on Friday.

Rainfall of 20 to 30 millimeters is forecast in Errachidia, Midelt, Boulemane, Guercif, Figuig and Taourirt between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m., according to the General Directorate of Meteorology.

The alert also covers Ifrane, Khenifra, Al Haouz, Chichaoua, El Kelaa des Sraghna, Tata, Ouarzazate, Taroudant, Tinghir, Zagora, Khouribga, Settat, Essaouira, Marrakech, Rehamna, Youssoufia, Azilal, Beni Mellal and Fquih Ben Salah.

Thunderstorms are expected in these areas from noon until midnight, the agency said.

The orange alert indicates potentially hazardous weather conditions that could disrupt daily activities.
