Morocco’s General Directorate of Meteorology has issued an orange-level weather alert for thunderstorms, hail and strong wind gusts expected across 23 provinces on Thursday.
The storms are forecast to bring rainfall of between 20 and 30 millimeters in affected areas, according to an updated warning issued Thursday, Oct. 8.
The alert covers the provinces of Taza, Figuig, Youssoufia, Ouarzazate, Driouch, Al Haouz, Tata, Boulemane, Midelt, Errachidia, Khouribga, El Kelaa des Sraghna, Marrakech, Rhamna, Beni Mellal, Azilal, Chichaoua, Zagora, Tinghir, Taroudant, Fquih Ben Salah, Nador and Guercif.
The thunderstorms are expected to begin at noon and continue until 11 p.m. Thursday, the meteorological service said.
Hail and strong wind gusts are also possible locally, with rainfall totals expected to reach 30 mm in some areas.
The warning reflects the potential for significant weather disturbances in the affected areas during the specified period.
