Germany is praising Morocco’s security services as the two countries expand cooperation on terrorism, organized crime, irregular migration and cybercrime.
Dieter Romann, head of Germany’s Federal Police, described Morocco as a key security partner during recent talks between officials from both countries.
The cooperation involves Morocco’s General Directorate of National Security and General Directorate for Territorial Surveillance, led by Abdellatif Hammouchi.
Hammouchi visited Germany in June, where he met Romann, senior officials from the Federal Criminal Police Office and experts working on counterterrorism and sports security.
The talks covered cross-border crime, human trafficking, drug trafficking, irregular migration, document fraud and cybercrime. Officials also discussed security at major sporting events.
Morocco has also stepped up security coordination with Germany and Spain. The three countries held their latest trilateral meeting in Rabat in January, focusing on terrorism, cybercrime, migration and sports security.
The partnership also includes training and efforts to strengthen security capabilities in Sahel countries.
