A friendly between Morocco and Ghana scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 4, in Tangier is in doubt after Ghana’s football federation reportedly told Morocco’s football governing body that it could not go ahead with the match because of an internal dispute over players’ financial dues.
Hesport reported, citing informed sources, that the Ghana Football Association had apologized to the Royal Moroccan Football Federation for being unable to play the friendly at the Grand Stadium of Tangier.
The dispute reportedly involves outstanding payments owed to Ghana’s national team players. A number of players have allegedly refused to travel to Morocco, casting further uncertainty over the Black Stars’ participation in the match.
The Royal Moroccan Football Federation has begun considering alternatives and is looking for another national team that could play Morocco on the same date if Ghana’s participation cannot be secured, according to the report.
The developments come as Morocco continues preparations for upcoming competitions after opening its qualifying campaign for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations with victories over Gabon and Lesotho.
The status of the Morocco-Ghana friendly remains unresolved pending a formal decision from the relevant football authorities, either confirming the match or announcing its cancellation and replacement.
